Photos from this morning’s honey bee removal in Letchworth. We attended and identified where the bees were held up. Using our thermal camera we were able to accurately pinpoint their location. They had setup shop in an outbuilding roof void. A small cut out was made to gain access to the bees. Once exposed the freshly made comb and bees were carefully extracted. Photos from a honey bee removal survey I went to take a look at in Hemel Hempstead today. This homeowner unknowingly inherited honey bees when he bought the property in November 2025. It was only when the honey started dripping down an outside wall, he knew he had a serious problem.
Due to the extreme heat, our thermal imaging camera didn’t offer much help, so I had to go looking for them the old fashioned way. On lifting a small section of roof tiles it didn’t take long to find the comb and colony. Removal day is Monday. Follow for further updates.

In amongst pigeons and honey bees this week, I went out to a job in Hitchin for rats. My customer had reported gnawing damage to a cooker cable. On inspection, it didn’t take long to track the activity back to the waste pipe box section in the kitchen. Smearing caused by rats rubbing other surfaces was evident in this area. How can a rat get into the waste pipe box section?
It’s usually via the drains. A quick probe of the property’s drains with our in house drain camera revealed the issue. A gap large enough for a rat to pass was present between a newer plastic pipe and the original clay pipe. Remedial work is now required to restrict rats from accessing this gap.
